Multivariate Small-area Estimation for Mixed-type Response Variables With Item Nonresponse

چکیده

Abstract Many surveys collect information on discrete characteristics and continuous variables, that is, mixed-type variables. Small-area statistics of interest include means or proportions the response variables as well their domain means, which are mean values at each level a different categorical variable. However, item nonresponse in survey data increases complexity small-area estimation. To address this issue, we propose multivariate mixed-effects model for subject to nonresponse. We apply method two structures where missing completely random by design. use empirical from separate studies: pet owners dataset National Resources Inventory. In these applications, our proposed leads improvements relative direct estimator predictor based univariate model.

Using Small Area Estimation and Lidar-derived Variables for Multivariate Prediction of Forest Attributes

Small area estimation (SAE) techniques have been successfully applied in forest inventories to provide reliable estimates for domains where the sample size is small (i.e. small areas). Previous studies have explored the use of either Area Level or Unit Level Empirical Best Linear Unbiased Predictors (EBLUPs) in a univariate framework, modeling each variable of interest at a time, and not consid...

Multivariate Fay-Herriot models for small area estimation

Introduction Multivariate Fay–Herriot models for estimating small area indicators are introduced. Among the available procedures for fitting linear mixed models, the residual maximum likelihood (REML) is employed. The empirical best predictor (EBLUP) of the vector of area means is derived. An approximation to the matrix of mean squared crossed prediction errors (MSE) is given and four MSE estim...

Comparison of Small Area Estimation Methods for Estimating Unemployment Rate

Extended Abstract. In recent years, needs for small area estimations have been greatly increased for large surveys particularly household surveys in Sta tistical Centre of Iran (SCI), because of the costs and respondent burden. The lack of suitable auxiliary variables between two decennial housing and popula tion census is a challenge for SCI in using these methods. In general, the...

Functional Mixed Effects Model for Small Area Estimation.

Functional data analysis has become an important area of research due to its ability of handling high dimensional and complex data structures. However, the development is limited in the context of linear mixed effect models, and in particular, for small area estimation. The linear mixed effect models are the backbone of small area estimation. In this article, we consider area level data, and fi...

Some New Developments in Small Area Estimation

Small area estimation has received a lot of attention in recent years due to growing demand for reliable small area statistics. Traditional area-specific estimators may not provide adequate precision because sample sizes in small areas are seldom large enough. This makes it necessary to employ indirect estimators based on linking models. Basic area level and unit level models have been extensiv...
